Both magnesium chloride and calcium chloride get used on driveways and walks through the mountain corridor, but magnesium chloride is measurably more damaging — more surface scaling and up to 10x more corrosive to embedded rebar than calcium chloride. Shaded, graded stretches that hold ice longer get de-iced the most and take the worst of it. We catch the scaling before it reaches structural spalling.
